Deep Learning

One of my tasks of OpenRapport back in 2021 was to analyse the social media posts in the public domain belonging to law enforcers that interacted with the public.

It was to determine if they upheld the teachings of the college of policing. Using Amazon Web Services and Python we accessed millions of tweets and aggregated them against law and legislation.

My skills allow me to work with code and process large amounts of data that usually people have to do by hand or use third-party tools. Using modern analytics to gain a heightened grasp on situations provides better metrics and helps build software solutions.

I chose to help the OpenPolice & OpenRapport projects as I wanted to be part of the solution rather than the problem.

It’s psychological really, common suspicion is formed due to another person’s preconception. There are those individuals that might be a bit of a busybody who might presume that our skills might be used maliciously. The fact that they acted so inquisitive around me and others, I was not surprised that many law enforcers had rude or nasty misdemeanours toward others online. (I believe we did a coin flip, before running the scan)

If I could put it into layman’s terms, for some. Have you ever had a partner that constantly accuses you of something that you have not done, usually their preconception is due to the fact that that is exactly what they would do in a similar situation. So if you are ever innocently accused…. be wary about your accuser. 😉 A little intelligence tip.

I have received police injustice in the past, but at the time the cybersecurity community was all underground in the UK with Alt. Ph. UK or alt2600 meetings. Whilst the USA was CyberAware for a long time, remember the movie Diehard 4 (2008) or Hacker Movie (1995). Now the community in the UK is booming 🙂 I am not alone. So many hackers, I am able to interact with online and share ideas in terms of development and creativity. I may get prejudiced by some, but I think to myself…

Can you design a software application or re-engineer hardware? Your phone, do you use the Android that came with the device, or do you rewrite your own Android Kernel and load that to the phone? Nope? Then trying to explain my methods to you is beyond your realm of understanding.

Development and Deep learning is never a question of “Can you build it?”, it’s more of a “How long will it take to create it?”

I don’t work for the police, nor could I ever, with the way it is at least in the UK. Like I said I want to be part of the solution rather than the problem. Could you imagine if I was tasked to trace someone they wanted… Would be done in seconds. Then again that’s why we have TraceLabs

Remember their whole working concept was drafted in 1962. The airline industry used to be in a similar administration and there were a lot of crashes. I believe if everyone works together, changes can be made. I hope I will get to see that in my lifetime.
